The name PP means Pellagra Preventive, or Prevention of Pellagra, a disease that was widespread in some regions of Northern Italy in past centuries, where it was rarely or not at all consumed in the diet. Pellagra derives from the Lombard dialect “Pelle Agra” or rough, one of the implications of the disease.
